How it started
A shirt-pocket notepad full of requests.
Coastline Manufacturing Co began by designing and making unique protective covers for RV travelers in the late 1990s. I was a vendor at the 10-day RVIA show in Pomona, CA where up to 50,000 people walked the aisles. We offered step mats screen printed with clever slogans and spare tire covers imprinted with popular designs. Both were in great demand in that bygone era.
Always mindful of an ever-changing market, keeping an open mind to far-fetched ideas and simple requests, my trusty shirt pocket note pad began to fill with requests over those show days. The most common request — pleading by some folks — was to create an effective protective cover for vehicles towed behind motor homes. That was a head scratcher, for sure.

Our Tow Car Shield was created through trial and error over time. Advertised in RV West magazine to the eleven western states, potential customers were invited to call and share their ideas and experiences with this concept. And they did call, and we talked. Many volunteered their cars for the early trials.

We protect all commonly towed vehicles and some that are not so common. By far, the Jeep Wranglers – JL, JK and Gladiator – are the most popular making up about 27% of what is being towed. Next up is the Ford lineup with the Maverick hybrid, F150, Ranger and few Broncos in that order.
As new cars and trucks with updated body styles enter the market, we collect patterns as they are asked for. The process could take several weeks to complete so you should plan accordingly.

Our pattern library extends back to 1999. Motorhomes are not built with the exacting standards that cars and trucks are. In short, in this opinion, the engineers of RVs have Bozo moments and change placement of mirrors and wipers, and other stuff, for no apparent reason at any time.
This can cause headaches for us and you in limited cases. If things don’t match up from our pattern to your coach, we work with you to make the fit right.
We cover more than 600 year, make and models but we don’t have everything. If we can locate a missing or a brand-new coach at a local RV lot, we can collect the pattern.

Motorhomes are not made to the same exacting standards that cars and trucks are and, consequently, mirrors and wiper assemblies can move on a whim during construction. Some rigs with the same year, make and model can have a front cap that is taller than what they made last week.
We try to catch that stuff and often ask you for measurements to clarify variables with our patterns.
Every Tow Car Shield sold, from the beginning, includes a 30-day trial. We want you to put it on your rig, tow it, and decide for yourself that Tow Car Shield is the right product for you.
Every Tow Car Shield comes with a lifetime free repair or replacement warranty to the original buyer and the original vehicle. It is important for everyone that we get your worn Tow Car Shield back for refurbishment. We want to learn from your experiences (including your adventure stories) and ensure that you get your money’s worth.
Tow Car Shield is made with proprietary components that cannot be replicated at upholstery shops. But sometimes simple repairs are more conveniently accomplished by sending you necessary parts and then you can have an upholstery shop install them.
When you return your Tow Car Shield, please make sure it is clean. If it has diesel exhaust, road grim and dust on it we will charge you $60.00 to take to the local laundromat and wash it. That’s right. Laundromat. Tow Car Shield is made tough American vinyl and polyester. Wash it in hot water with a box of soap from the dispenser. Air dry it if you don’t like hanging out at laundromats, or machine dry it if you do.
